Yay, so no workshop these past 2 weeks, so that also means no doing nudes and stuff, but there’s still alot of homework and I’m tired. I CANNOT WAIT FOR SPRING BREAK.
This was a sketchbook doodle I did, inspired by drawgabbydraw on tumblr. You can check out her work here: http://drawgabbydraw.tumblr.com/
What’s awesome about her work though, at least for me, is that she is completely self taught! And I think the style is completely awesome. My teacher says that I should clarify the hands and feet though, but I think if that were done, the essence of the drawing would be lost.
This drawing also reminds me of Danielle, I think it’s the hair. Herrow Danielle!!!
And finally! A drawing of one of the dresses of McQueen. Took a long time, but what the heck.McQueen is awesome. Abit sengeh though.
So we made a dress, pretty cute! But this was tough man, especially doing the armholes. What I love about CDFP though, is finding out all these solutions to things you never discovered before, and have always been wondering how they are done, like how the yoke is sewn or how the armhole is finished.
(I actually ripped a hole in the dress but then I glued it back together. Oops.)
So I haven’t been blogging in quite awhile because life has been crazy busy (okay not life, but school, but school is life now, so yar).
More nudes, nudes, nudes.
I really liked this model but we only had her once and I thought I drew her pretty nicely.
And this one was done in class to explore the use of shape, but I thought it was more of a negative/positive space exercise…
So Jean Paul Gaultier came and went, and it was so so difficult to see him! I didn’t even try to get a picture because it just wasn’t worth the effort. Oh well I think I shall steal some photos from my friends later on. So I submitted this drawing for the wall decoration thing but it wasn’t chosen in the end (even though earlier they told me that they were going to), but I am just going to upload it since the work is inspired by Gaultier anyway.
He talked about how designers in the past were different than they are today, designers in the old sense, namely McQueen, Galliano and himself and about how you should be passionate about what you do. Because then, it drives the creativity and imagination in our brains, rather than simply copying what other people are doing today.
Okay so I am trying to have more fun in textiles, but it’s kinda hard for me to think abstract. I’ve got to start researching for next week onwards cause we’re going to start on our final projects, argh.
I really like this one, made using extender base, though I think I didn’t put enough extender base for the first layer.
This one did not turn out right st all, but oh well, it just means I need to work on my printing technique.
This one was made with a combination of pro-reactive dyeing process and silkscreen printing after. Smelt like bleach because I slapped it on though. I still can’t decide if I like it….
This one was a fun class, we made our prints on synthetic fabric using a heat press. I think I will look into using this method muchos for my final project.
Adding a silkscreen layer on top.
Combining two different prints in the heat press. The colour on the paper comes out way off than on the fabric.
Textiles is fun, but honestly I don’t think I will survive as a textile major…
Well, so sewing has been getting more and more tough, but it is also always fun. I think I shall take a menswear class soon (hopefully)!
So we finally got to making a bodice (the 2nd one in my life) and it wasn’t too bad! But for the life of me I have no idea how and why I made the sleeve too long, but oh well I have since adjusted my block.
And then we did draping! That was fun and good to know! I wonder what happens next for draping though…
So we learned how to turn this…
Into this…
Other than that, life here has been good work wise. Everything else has come to a kind of standstill to make space for homework and school, cause right now that’s all I do.
If you’re reading this at home, I am thinking about you, do say hi sometimes! (:
I like this class but lately, I feel like I am losing it and my proportions have been off. Time to get back into shape, yo. HAHA.
It’s so amazing how people can spot proportion issues with a trained eye and know how to fix it without even having the model in front of them, corrections made by my teacher.
I think I am in love with the brush pens, but today I fell in love with my first love again, colour pencils. It’s a love hate relationship, but who really knows. I hope they don’t break my heart.
